About Us

The 4th season of "My Favorite Shanghai" Short Video Showcase is a co-production of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality, Shanghai Municipal Culture and Tourism Administration, and SMG News. This year's topic is "My Favorite Chinese Treasures", and we invite students worldwide to showcase Chinese traditional culture in contemporary settings and its global significance.

1. Ideas for Video Topics

"Traditional"

China is an amazing country with a great history. However, do focus on aspects of fascinating Chinese culture and treasures at least a century old.

-Clothing and Food,

-Architecture and Home,

-Inventions and Techniques,

-Seasonal and Festive,

-Arts and Entertainment,

-Language and Literature,

-Museums and Cultural Relics,

-Traditional Chinese Medicine, etc.

"China-Chic"

All cultures change through time. Focus on traditional Chinese culture that has gone through some facet of "rejuvenation" and/or "internationalization" in the contemporary context.

New life, new creativity, and new fashion rooted in traditional Chinese culture, as well as new ways to "play" with traditional culture in the age of robots and AI.

"Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage"

Focus on Shanghai's Intangible Cultural Heritage — Decoding Shanghai culture and reflecting the city's aesthetic personality and cultural spirit.

Tips

Intangible cultural heritage items are clearly defined, so be sure to check the list on the official website beforehand.

2. Know Your Audience

What is the impression of traditional Chinese culture among your circle of friends? Choosing topics that resonate with the audience.

We interviewed nearly 100 people from 30 countries on the streets of Shanghai, Beijing, New York, Sydney, and London. Look at the video atop and be inspired!

Tips

Having your own style and character works best! We expect each submission to be as unique as you are.

4. Video Production

Video Length: no longer than 90 seconds

Film Equipment: okay to use phone/camera/other professional equipment

Video Resolution: HD or high-quality videos are generally more aesthetically pleasing

Attention: If you use your mobile phone, remember to set the resolution to HD (horizontal: 1920*1080; vertical: 1080*1920) or above before shooting! See below.

Tips

If you don't have a professional or semi-professional microphone, try not to choose a noisy place to record your video.

5. Send Us Your Work Now

Step 1: All participants must first register!

Registration: 30th June - 31st August

Download the Knews app: Search “kankanxinwen” in your app store, download the Knews app and create a user account.

Find us

-Go to the User Account (我的) menu at the bottom of the homepage and click on Activities (活动).

-Look for the event titled My Favorite Chinese Treasures.

-Click on Sign up to register for the event.

Get the registration code

-Please fill out the required information and submit it.

-Once your registration is successful, you will receive a registration code.

Step 2: Entries must be submitted by 31st August.

Please submit your video work, personal information form, and a recent photo of yourself to the corresponding email address, with the registration code in the subject of the email.

ATTENTION

We have prepared a packet that includes a personal information form, a copyrighted music pack, a reference of traditional culture vocabulary and a bilingual book list from Shanghai Children's Library. Follow our ICS WeChat official account and enter "Shanghai" in the dialogue box to download it.

Tips

NO. 1 Video works can be submitted as attachments or by mailing us a cloud storage link.

NO. 2 The personal information form needs to include the English and Chinese scripts as well as the relevant bibliography / URL for accuracy checking.

NO. 3 Do send us a neat high-clarity photo since it will appear on your work poster!

6. Video Showcase

Those who contribute will have the opportunity to participate in the video showcase on Knews App, SMG's News Channel, ICS (Broadcast Television & Social Media Channels), ShanghaiEye, and more to come.

The videos will be showcased from August 2023 onwards, in succession.

Entries must be original. The entrant agrees to use the video work by the event organizer on the organizer’s platform and the partner platform in any format. The entrant promises that he/she owns or has legally obtained the complete copyright of the video work provided and will not infringe the copyright and other rights of any third party (including and not limited to the broadcasting rights, information network transmission rights of pictures, music, sound recordings, etc.). The organizer will not assume legal responsibility for disputes, including (not limited to) portrait rights, reputation, privacy, copyright, and trademark rights. The organizer reserves the final right to interpret this activity.
