2019年，上海全市大数据产业实现核心产业总产值达2053亿元，占上海GDP的5.38%。全年大数据核心企业研发投入总计超过350亿元；大数据核心企业获授权专利数量总计达到3192项。目前上海有11家大数据联合创新实验室，为医疗、旅游、交通、能源、社会信用等领域提供数据科学解决方案。通过数据科学构建智慧城市，营造智慧生活、发展智慧经济、完善智慧治理、建设智慧政务。

（In 2019, Shanghai's big data industries produced an output value of 205.3 billion yuan, accounting for 5.38% of Shanghai's GDP. R&D investment in the industry reached over 35 billion yuan. 3,192 patents have been authorized so far. Shanghai is now home to 11 joint big data labs. These data labs provide data science solutions to a variety of socio-economic sectors, including medical care, tourism, transportation, energy and social credit services. Data sciences can be used to build smart cities, in terms of smart life, smart economy, smart urban governance and smart government services.）

But the other side is the application of data science to real world problems. We believe that data science will become very important for all of the academic disciplines. People want to make data driven decisions. Anyone could just walk around the streets of Shanghai and see all different ways that a science can potentially be applied. Our students who graduate with these data science skills have a tremendous potential to bring Pudong to the next level in terms of smart cities.”）
